It has been reported that yesterday (27th July), two men were caught hare coursing on Ballam Road, along with their pet dogs. The police arrived at the scene to find the offenders on the road, and swiftly took their details before moving them out of the area.

Hare coursing is the sport in which greyhounds chase hares, it was banned in the UK by the Hunting Act 2004. However, the sport continues to be practised across the UK, with the number of brown hares in the country declining by 80% since the late 1880s.

Fylde Police have requested that if anyone comes across any suspicious rural activity that they believe to be a hunting crime, that it must be reported to 101 or via 999 if there is a crime in progress – ensuring that police officers can be on the scene rapidly.
