Unemployment Rate Soars – Fylde Council Figures Released!

The latest unemployment figures have been released by the Office for National Statistics.

Nationally, the UK sees 2,709,210 people claiming benefits – which is an estimated 6.5% of the total population. The highest figure for over 3 years!

This new peak is mainly due to mass redundancies caused by the current Covid climate. Especially after the end of the government’s Eat Out to Help Out Scheme, which had helped to protect many jobs.

Here in Lytham St Anne’s council of Fylde, the figures are slightly lower than the rest of the nation, with a reported 2,530 residents claiming benefits. This is an estimated 5.5% of the area. This is a staggering increase of 1,575 (3.4%) compared to the same period 12 months ago.
