Dr Jim Gardner, medical director of the Blackpool Victoria Hospital, (pictured below) has issued a timely warning that Fylde Coast residents should not be complacent with regard to current Coronavirus pandemic. He has advised that the Hospital was still currently seeing and admitting a significant number of new patients testing positive for Covid-19.
He said, ‘We really need to remain vigilant and careful and alert, to use the Prime Minister’s term, around our own behaviour in relation to Covid-19 and how we manage the hospital at this time.’ Dr Gardner added that, at the time of his report, there were one hundred and fifteen Covid-19 patients at the Victoria, including six in intensive care. He confirmed that two hundred and seventy seven patients have been discharged. The latest NHS England figures show that one hundred and sixty two people have died after testing positive for the coronavirus at the Hospital.
Dr Gardner also said that prearranged non-emergency, medical work was starting to get back to normal. He also stressed that anyone experiencing a health care emergency should not hesitate to contact their GP surgery or dial 111 (the NHS’s medical helpline). If it is a life-threatening emergency, Dr Gardner said, ‘Dial 999 and the emergency services will manage your case accordingly.’
