On Friday 14th of February 2020, it was Valentines Day: being a lover of fine food, I felt there was no better time to dine out with my better half.
As a regular of Farina & Co, Lytham on Clifton Street, we decided to choose them as a ‘safe option’ as the food is always perfect here, and my other-half doesn’t like to be disappointed on Valentines Day.
Due to work commitments, we could only dine at 8:30pm, which wasn’t an issue with the restaurant who reserved us a fabulous table. When we arrived there the venue was absolutely packed, and being the super-organised restaurant that they are they had plenty of staff on, and none of them seemed overwhelmed with the heaving restaurant which just goes to show you how super-organised the Farina & Co group are.
Polite waiter Gianni Angelo met us upon our arrival, and was very welcoming. We were taken straight to the bar and offered an extensive choice of drinks while our table was prepared. I immediately chose a Red Peroni, which is hard to find in the UK, and my partner being the ‘cheap date’ opted for the tap water (I heard my wallet sigh with relief at this point).
Within a matter of minutes, Gianni directed us to our table which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. The menus were presented to us, and we were informed that there was a special Valentines Day menu. I decided that we would be ordering from the Valentines Menu as there were choices available we hadn’t opted for previously.
For our starters I opted for the Classic prawn cocktail with tropical fruit, and my partner opted for the Oven baked goats’ cheese, and for our mains we both chose Pollo al Marsala which is asparagus and cheddar cheese stuffed chicken breast with Marsala wine sauce.
While waiting for the food I ordered another Red Peroni, and my partner another glass of water! A romantic saxophone musician started playing his instrument to entertain the busy restaurant, he was very talented. The couple on the next table were heard to say “nothing beats a bit of sax before dinner”.
The starters arrived very promptly which took us by surprise as we were understandably expecting delays due to the restaurant being fully booked, another example of how professional they are at Farina & Co and are ahead of the game. The prawn cocktail was very fresh and the tropical fruits were a great mix, I wish this was on the main menu as I’d love to experience it again! My partner’s goats’ cheese was just done fabulously, and it really suited the cold weather of the evening as it was a proper cosy dish, she even let me try a bit and I agreed with her (for once)! We consumed our starters and Gianni took our plates away.
The saxophone player continued with his musical numbers and everyone was very happy. The main courses now arrived, and we were in for a real treat. It was almost like an Italian roast dinner, the weather was horrendous outside and this was just the dish you wanted to eat. I almost felt I was sat in a cabin dining in Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Italian Alps. The chicken was so succulent. I glanced around the restaurant and it was full of couples and all of them looked content and were thoroughly enjoying their evening.
We now chose our desserts, my partner went for the Profiteroles and I went for the Tiramisu. Both desserts arrived quickly, and both were equally heavenly.
I have been coming to Farina & Co probably on a monthly basis since they opened, and I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad experience. The cleanliness of the venue, the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the food, the portion size, the drinks are always top of the pops. They are super-organised and are a credit to Lytham. Soon we will do a review of their standard menu, but tonight the Valentines Day menu was just too tempting not to choose from.
