The Black Sheep Tearoom share COVID-19 update after customer tests positive

Local café, The Black Sheep Tearoom in Lytham have released a Covid related update after news of cases in Lytham rises. The news comes after local restaurants The Deacon and Capri close their doors for 10 days after one of their staff members tests positive for Covid-19.

As we have seen just down the road in Poulton-le-Fylde, once a hospitality staff member contracts the virus, the entire town is in danger of shutting down completely as restaurant and bar workers tend to mingle outside of work.

As fears of the virus shutting down Lytham St Annes, venues take extra precautions in order to avoid closing for 14 days and isolating their staff. The Black Sheep Tearoom who have thoroughly followed track and trace procedures since opening in July, have been informed by a customer, who visited this weekend, that they have contracted the virus.

The tearoom immediately contacted local authorities including the council and EHO to seek advise on whether to close, considering the customer sat outside for 20 minutes and was served by one member of staff. The café owners, Mel and Jamie have been advised that the case is low risk and that they may continue to operate as long as the member of staff who was in contact with the customer is isolating for 14 days.

The Black Sheep Tearoom have continued to ensure that they strictly follow track and trace guidelines, as well as diligently sanitising the venue at regular intervals throughout the day.

The update on Facebook read:

“Hi everyone we have been informed by a customer that they have tested positive for Covid and visited our venue on Sunday 20th September they were sat outside at 12.30 for 20 mins.
We have contacted the local council and eho immediately who we are working with closely.
They have advised us due to the outside area the customer was sat in the risk element is extremely low and classed as minimal risk.
The staff member who served them is now self isolating for 14 days and has had a test themselves.
The tearoom has had a full deep clean yesterday when we were closed for 24hrs.
Environmental health have advised that it is safe to open due to the minimal risk and as we are strictly following all Covid regulations it is safe for staff and customers and we can trade as normal .
If anything changes and test and trace need to contact anyone they will be in touch .

Please rest assured that we have worked extremely closely with environmental health to ensure that we are doing everything necessary and to reassure everyone that the tearoom is safe for staff and customers.”
