Over the coming weeks, St Anne’s Square will begin to reveal the final touches of its exciting transformation — bringing to life the vision for a more vibrant, welcoming public space.
While a few final snagging issues are being addressed, work will continue to enhance both the atmosphere and experience of the square for residents, visitors, and local businesses.
✨🌿Here’s what you can expect to see taking shape soon:
🌱 Greener and More Beautiful
Over 140 additional plants will be added to enrich the landscape and provide year-round colour and texture. These salt-tolerant varieties will ensure year-round appeal, making the Square an even more welcoming destination for families, shoppers and businesses.
💡 Lighting with Ambience
New atmospheric street and strip lighting will help create a warm, inviting feel as the evenings draw in — perfect for autumn strolls or late-night shopping.
🚗 Smarter Parking
Newly painted parking bays will clearly mark out spaces, improving the overall look and usability of the area. Lancashire County Council’s traffic regulation order will prevent vehicles from waiting or parking on the new pavements, protecting the investment for everyone to enjoy.
✨ Handrails and Stone Seating
Additionally, the much-awaited additional handrails will be installed in the coming weeks on both the north and south side steps, ensuring that everyone can safely enjoy the community space with ready access to the shops. Two single stone seats are on order which will be added to the stone benching area and a section of pavement lifting is to be carried out to ensure level access.
Councillor Karen Buckley, Leader of Fylde Council said, “I’m keen for the works to be finally complete and all barriers gone from the Square, ready for its regular use for markets and events. These finishing touches are taking a little longer than anticipated but are important to ensure accessibility for all our residents and visitors so that everyone can enjoy the Square.”
These final improvements are expected to be the last step in delivering a more attractive, accessible, and community-friendly square — a space to be proud of at the heart of St Anne’s.
