‘Ride The Lights’ Along A Traffic Free Promenade Returns On Tuesday 29th August

Tuesday 29th August sees Blackpool’s annual Ride The Lights event. This free event gives everyone the opportunity to get on their bikes when, for one night only, the six miles of Promenade will be closed to traffic from 6.30 p.m. until 10.30 p.m. with the Ride the Lights event starting at 7 p.m. and finishing at 10 p.m.

This popular annual event gives thousands of cyclists an opportunity to get a sneak preview of the Illuminations before the official switch-on on Friday 1st September (see poster below). Bikes of all shapes and sizes will be travelling up and down the seafront route in a free family event which the organisers say is suitable for all ages.

Cyclists can ride at any point along the Promenade from Starr Gate at South Shore to Red Bank Road in Bispham and are able to choose to ride as much or as little of the illuminated route

Although the free event is tailored for those with bikes, visitors are more than welcome to walk the lights on this special evening – so pull on your walking shoes for this brilliant car free evening at Blackpool Illuminations.

A Spokesperson for Ride the Lights said, ‘Why not join in the creative fun by designing your very own Illuminations display on your bike? Decorate your ride with colourful lights, lamps and lanterns to show off your illuminations design ideas. Light your ride… then ride the lights!

Active Blackpool will once again be joining us on the Tower Festival Headland where they will demonstrate balance bikes and adapted cycles. They will also be providing cycle repair and information stalls on local bike initiatives.

However, please be aware that tramway will be operational, so please ensure you stay a safe distance from the tramway.’
