The ladies of St. Anne’s Parish Operatic Society (SAPOS) are bravely shedding their clothes as they stage the musical ‘Calendar Girls’, featuring unforgettable, uplifting songs by Gary Barlow, at the Lowther Pavilion in July. This much-anticipated performance, however, will be presented in the best possible taste with no actual nudity on stage! And these brilliant photographs taken in an exclusive photoshoot by Phil Downie – https://www.facebook.com/phildowniephotography/ – certainly help whet the appetite for this very special show.
The hit musical, based on the 2003 hit movie Calendar Girls, starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, is centred on the real-life Rylstone Women’s Institute members in Yorkshire who decided to make a nude calendar to raise funds for Leukaemia Research following the heart-breaking death of one of their husbands. As an added bonus, SAPOS are even making a special calendar of their own, also tastefully done, with funds being raised for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The true story of the Calendar Girls has already launched a global phenomenon, a million copycat calendars, a record-breaking movie, stage play and musical written by Tim Firth and Gary Barlow which coined the term “craughing” – the act of crying and laughing at the same time. With brilliant songs, every performance continues to add to the millions already raised for charity and also prove that there is no such thing as an ordinary woman.
The dates to remember are Wednesday 20th July to Saturday 23rd July. Be quick to book a front row seat at the Lowther – go to https://lowtherpavilion.co.uk/shows/calendar-girls-the-musical/
