Victim Of Henry Street Assault Passes Away In Hospital

Matthew Guthrie, who was the victim of a serious assault in Lytham at 1.28 a.m. on Sunday 18th June, has sadly passed away in hospital.

25-year-old Matthew was said to be walking across Lytham Square towards Henry Street when he was struck by a man coming in the other direction.  On Sunday evening police arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of section 18 assault (grievous bodily harm).

Matthew was a member at Hello Fit and said to a fun, happy, caring man with a lot of friends. One of his close friends said this today, ‘ It is with deep shock and sadness that we hear of what happened to Matthew Guthrie in Lytham over the weekend, having now passed away in hospital. Matthew was a member at Hello Fit and was a fun, happy, caring man with a lot of friends here. It was only Thursday myself (Rich) and Matthew were sharing a bit of banter as usual on the gym floor. He was always walking around between sets so we used to joke about how much time he spent resting vs working out. Matthew will be missed greatly at the gym and our thoughts are with his family and close friends at this time.’

On Sunday Detective Inspector Kirsty Wyatt of Blackpool CID, asked: ‘Did you witness the man being assaulted or were you in the area of Henry Street around the time and saw three men walking away? If you have any information, please get in touch. You can contact police on 101, quoting log 0134 of June 18, 2023.’
