Police Issue Statement Following This Morning’s Tragic Discovery (09.01.24)

Police received a call at 6.15 a.m. (Tuesday 9th January) from a member of the public who reported a woman in the Estuary Water near Dock Road in Lytham. Fire crews and Police searched the area and a woman’s body was recovered a short time later. Police have said that her death is not thought to be suspicious.
A Police spokesperson has shared this information, ‘We were called at about 6.15 a.m. today (Tuesday, January 9) to a report of a woman in the water near Dock Road at Lytham. Emergency services attended and very sadly the body of a woman was recovered from the water a short time later. There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.’

A spokesperson for the Fire Service added, ‘Three fire engines, the boat and aerial drone unit attended an incident near Estuary View this morning. A casualty was rescued and transferred into the care of North West Ambulance Service.’

Also assisting this morning in the search for the casualty were HM Coastguard including the Lytham Coastal Rescue Team (CRT).  They conducted bankside searches in several areas. The Fire Service air drone and underwater drone were used, with the RNLI and Fire Service also committed to searching in and across the water. Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 936 was also tasked but was stood down shortly after.
