Squires Gate FC Put On A Valiant Display – But Southport FC Victorious

Squires Gare provided a valiant display against Southport, from the National League North, last night (Tuesday 17th October) but were defeated 3:1 and so exit the Lancashire Challenge Trophy.

The Gate scored a well deserved equaliser when James Boyd  hit the back of the net in the 28th minute with a great goal – but Southport stormed back into the lead two minutes later with a Luke Burgess strike.  With another goal in the 42nd minute, Southport went into the half-time break 3-1 up.

The second half was a closely contented 45 minutes, and the match ended 3-1.

Despite England playing in a televised European Championship game against Italy, 244 spectators enjoyed the game under the floodlights at the Big Help Stadium in Southport.
