49 Year Old Man Dies After Being Stabbed In Blackpool On Sunday Morning

A man reportedly stabbed in the leg with a kitchen knife on Sunday 6th August and rushed to hospital has died following surgery at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. The incident occurred outside an address on Hollywood Avenue, Blackpool.

Police were called at shortly before 8 a.m. on Sunday morning to a report a man in his 40s had been stabbed in the leg. Officers attended and the victim was taken to hospital.

A man was arrested at the scene and later charged with Section 18 wounding and possession of a knife.

The arrested man is James Welsh (19/4/68) of Hollywood Avenue, Blackpool. He appeared at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday, 7th August ) and was remanded into custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on Monday 4th September.

Very sadly the victim, Ryan Broxup, 49, from Blackpool, died from his injuries yesterday afternoon (Monday 7th August). His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.

A Home Office post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to try to establish a cause of death.

Following Mr Broxup’s death Police will liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service in relation to any further charges.

Detective Chief Inspector Al Davies, of the Force Major Investigation Team, said: ‘First and foremost my thoughts are with Mr Broxup’s family at this desperately sad time.

While we have arrested and charged a man, I am still keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened on Sunday and who has not yet spoken to police, or who has any information which could assist us in our investigation, to come forward and speak to us.’
